Scam is defined as dishonest act or fraud. The latest report said that 155 million lost to over 8,000 scams from January to August 2023. Having an in-placed and reliable Cyber Security is the solution to this kind of dilemma in today’s technology driven world.

According to Digital 2022 Global Overview Report, Filipinos rank second globally on spending the most time on the Internet. The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group released various online scams, that includes:

1.)   BOILER ROOM - refers to an outbound call center selling questionable investments by telephone. It typically refers to a room where salesmen work using unfair, dishonest sales tactics, sometimes selling foreign currency stock, private placements or committing outright stock fraud.

2.)    ROMANCE SCAMoverseas scammers will go to great lengths to gain your interest and trust, such as sharing personal information and even sending you gifts. Scammers may take months, to build what seems like the romance of a lifetime and may even pretend to book flights to visit you, but never actually come. Once they have gained your trust, they will ask you either subtly or directly for money, gifts or banking/credit card details.

3.)   LOTTERY SCAM - An email, letter or text message from a lottery company arrives from out of nowhere. It will advise you that you have won a lot of money or fantastic prizes—in a lottery or competition you did not enter.

Never be a victim of online scam. Do not engage in online activities that requires you to send money or believe you win to something you never participated. Protect yourself and be properly informed.
